How does your background impact your work today?
Skin care is the marriage of everything I’ve invested myself into.
I went to school for opera singing and worked as a makeup artist, and my artistry is important to me. Working in medicine satisfied my desire to solve people’s problems, and dermatology showed me how to bring all my passions together.
Caring for skin takes complex knowledge, empathy, and creativity. Finding the best solution for my patients requires out of the box thinking—it’s my creative outlet.
What are the top few skin mistakes you see people making?
Of course, St. Ives apricot scrub and other overly harsh products. Combining the wrong products, or even using good products too frequently, can also create more issues than benefits. We educate our patients about what products work well together and when to use them.
Hopping from product to product without leaving time for them to work is also not good—cell turnover takes at least 4 weeks, so you’ll have to stick with a product for at least a month to see results.
Why are you passionate about having a close relationship with your patients?
I do skin care because I love it, and I love helping people. I’ve been with some patients for 8 years; I‘ve seen them graduate, get married, have kids—I naturally invest in people’s lives. Humans are meant to be together and help each other.
What do you wish more people knew about the skincare and aesthetics industry?
That there’s a lot we can do to help them! People often feel helpless or think things like “that solution wouldn’t work for me.” But there are lots of solutions out there that haven’t become trendy or publicized. Come in and get help sooner rather than later, because we’re experts at what we do, and it’s not a hopeless situation.
